OK. So it's official. I'm going to Africa!
Some of the detail has still to be sorted out, but I've been invited to attend AIM's Central
Region Conference in Jinja, Uganda from 6-10 June.
Besides meeting, at the conference, all AIM's Mission Partners working in Central Region - that's Chad, DR Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan and Uganda - I'm hoping to visit some Mission Partners where they live and work. At the moment, we're looking at the possibility of going to Mbarara in South Uganda and Kigali, Rwanda, but that has still to be finalised.
So what's next? Well, lots of emails back and forth and possibly the odd Skype conversation to fix up details of the trip. Then I'll need to book flights. But the other item on the agenda is a visit to my local GP clinic to talk about vaccinations - lots of them! Not looking forward to that bit. Oh, and there's also the small matter of malaria tablets.
There's also one other hurdle to negotiate. Last May, I damaged my left knee playing football in the park with my grandson, Isaac. No, it wasn't a two-footed tackle - he's only 6 (5 at the time). I just slipped on the wet grass and strained the medial ligaments.
Now it appears that I may have also damaged the cartilage, so I've got to go for arthroscopy. My initial appointment with the orthopaedic specialist is 10 May, so there are two possible scenrios you could pray for:
1. I get a quick second appointment for surgery (unlikely), so that I can recover in time for the trip OR
2. I get an appointment for after I return from Africa and my knee holds out until I get back. I've managed for the last ten months, but this is England.
Well, that's all for now. I'll let you know how things progress. Exciting, or what!
God bless
Alan
